23.3.20 UHS neurology referrals pilot
UHS has started a pilot of general neurology triage referrals to address general neurology waiting times.
The pilot will run until May 2020 and may affect referrals sent between December 2019 and May 2020. During this pilot, 800 referrals will be triaged by consultant neurologists, using new methodology, and there will be variation in how general neurology referrals are managed.
Patients that refer within the pilot may be offered advice and guidance, or may be sent to scan before being offered an appointment. Most piloted cases will be new referrals, however, the pilot will also triage some referrals for patients who are currently waiting over 50 weeks to their appointment
As a result of the pilot, changes may be made to the appointments of patients in the over 50 week cohort. In some cases, the appointment may be cancelled. Should this happen, both the GP and patient will receive a letter explaining what the alternative plan and reasons for this.
We are interested to understand the impact this new referral system will have on GPs. If your referrals falls within the pilot and you have any feedback please email: Debbie.firstname.lastname@example.org
