Practices in West Hampshire, including Abbeywell, Alma Rd, Blackthorn, Hedge End, North Baddesley and West End are eligible for the Solent Continence Service.

Practices in Mid-Hampshire, including Archers, Boyatt Wood, Fryern, Park, Parkside, St Andrew’s, and St Luke’s receive their service from the Southern Health Continence Service.

Patients will be assessed by the Continence Service and follow a Level 1 or Level 2 pathway, determined by them. Level 1 patients will require containment products to manage and maintain their dignity and quality of life.  Level 2 patients will require highly specialised assessment.

The service promotes continence and the management of incontinence, along with all aspects of pelvic floor dysfunction, through interventions by specifically trained Nurses and a Womens Health Physiotherapist. These clinicians provide an assessment service for clients with bladder, bowel and pelvic floor difficulties following clinical pathways agreed with consultants and GPs.

They offer many services including home visits.

They offer specific clinics under specialty Urology:

  • Female continence clinic (bladder/prolapse issues/double incontinence)
  • Prostate assessment clinic/continence (LUTS/bladder)
  • Recurrent UTI
  • Adult bowel clinic (faecal incontinence)

Clinics are held in Totton, Hythe, Bitterne, and Lymington

Please note, Solent will accept referrals from for Cornerways and Fordingbridge but don’t provide products due to delivery distance, but Southern Health will provide them with products.

The Southern Health Continence Service is able to offer information and support to individuals who require advice regarding the promotion of continence, and the management of incontinence; joint visits are offered for patients with complex bladder / bowel needs.

They will accept any patient 18 years and over with or without bladder/bowel incontinence.

Exclusions:

  • End of life – due to the patient having to wait up to 28 days for an appointment. If incontinence pads are required, complete and email the product request form to SHFT.ContinenceService@nhs.net. If you do not have access to the form please refer on to the ICT/CCT to complete.
  • Catheterisation – Excluding teaching of Clean Intermittent Self Catheterisation
  • Bowel preparations such as suppositories and enemas.
  • Those patients that require a clinic appointment under the Solent Bladder & Bowel Service should continue to be referred to Community Bladder and Bowel Service (see above)
