Encouraging patients to keep active
News
Our acute providers are reporting an increase in seeing patients from the community with skin breakdown/pressure ulcers. It is reported that this seems to be amongst members of our population who currently do not have services going in to seem them at home, for example, older patients who do not have contact with community/social care. This may be because they are having reduced contact with family/friends who might have encouraged them to be active prior to lockdown restrictions being put in place.
As part of the Sport England Join the Movement campaign, a booklet has been developed to support older people and those who are shielded to be active and healthy at home. The guidance will help older adults to maintain strength and balance and prevent deconditioning.
We have attached the two versions below (one electronic and one for printing), but they can also be accessed via the PHE Campaign Resource Hub: https://campaignresources.phe.gov.uk/resources/campaigns/50-resource-ordering/resources/5118.
Please share this booklet with any of your patients to whom you think this guidance would be valuable. You may also consider adding it your practice website.
