3.4.20 SE Regional COVID-19 Cancer Pathway Guidance Documents
News
Please find below SE Regional COVID-19 Cancer Pathway Guidance Documents which been developed and reviewed by clinicians across the 4 cancer alliances in the SE. Where there is existing national guidance that clinicians have agreed is suitable, this is also attached. These will also come down to you through the formal ICC routes in due course. We will continue to update them as necessary we go through this pandemic, so any comments or additional detail to include are also welcome. As previously stated, these are guidance notes only, for local interpretation.
Also find attached draft SE Regional Primary Care Guidance which has been developed in a similar vain to try and support our GP colleagues through this time period. These are also due to be approved by the SE Regional Primary Care cell imminently, and once cleared they will come through the ICC routes. As above we will be updating them as we go through this pandemic, so any comments on what else to include are also welcome. As with the regional pathways documents these are guidance notes, for local interpretation.
There is also a letter attached which came out from the National Cancer Programme Team yesterday highlighting the following specifically:
• Essential and urgent cancer treatments must continue. Cancer specialists should discuss with their patients whether it is more risky for them to undergo or to delay treatment at this time.
• Where referrals or treatment plans depart from normal practice, safety-netting must be in place so that patients can be followed up.
• Urgent consideration should be given to consolidating cancer surgery in a COVID-free hub, with centralised triage to prioritise patients based on clinical need.
