27.4.20 Urgent request for HCP at high risk, to participate in a local Covid-19 Vaccine trial
News
Are you between 18 and 55 and in good health?
The LMC is supporting the the Research Unit at University Hospital Southampton, who are working with Oxford and a number of other Units to rapidly test new vaccines for Covid-19.
Due to low SARS-CoV-2 transmission due to lockdown, they have now been asked to prioritise seronegative high risk Health Care Professionals (ED, ICU, COVID wards, GPs, care home workers). An antibody test is now part of the screening process for Health Care Professionals.
This is a phase 1 trial and the usual important controls/care needs to be taken – so the phase 1 trial team, at UHS will need to try to screen high risk Health Care Professionals who have volunteered by appointment – at the UHS clinical research facility site – on Tuesday this week (and maybe another day later TBC). The later phase 2 and 3 trials (3-4 weeks time) may also try to offer participation to these groups but also has yet to be confirmed.
If this may be of interest to anyone able to participate, please can they contact the team via uhs.recruitmentCRF@nhs.net as the website is closed to the public now (over 3500 responses in the database for Wessex). All other aspects – postcode/location etc – remain the same as before (ie need to be in Southampton/Winchester area) – they would also consider people who are just outside this area.

The participant information sheet is attached.
