21.4.20 COVID-19 Vaccine Study
News
The Oxford Vaccine Centre’s COVID-19 vaccine trial is being run by the Jenner Institute and Oxford Vaccine Group, working in collaboration with Professor Saul Faust at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust.
The COVID-19 vaccine phase 1 trial started recruiting in Southampton on 19 April (Oxford started earlier, other locations will come on line later). The phase 1 trial is being rapidly undertaken to ascertain whether it is possible to detect an efficacy signal. Phase 1 includes younger healthy adults only.
It is a requirement as part of MHRA guidelines and best practice GCP rules for clinical trials for any volunteer after the screening visit to have written confirmation from their GP that they can take part in the trial. This information is required to enable the vaccine to be administered. At the screening visit, the volunteer will be asked to give consent for their GP to be contacted. As soon as written confirmation is received from their GP and after the blood test check (less than 24 hours), the vaccine can be administered.
We therefore need your help to rapidly turnaround the confirmation request for any volunteer registered with your practice.
The web-enrolment will enable people to join the trial:

To join the trial, people need to live in the shaded area shown on the map in the web link. This is because of travel restrictions and the need for multiple visits. It is likely that screening visits will be undertaken between 23 – 26 April and the vaccine visits between 30 April and 4 May.
Thank you in anticipation for your help.
