News
On Monday 15 February, NHS England and Improvement are launching their next “Help us Help You” message which this time, will focus on Lung cancer.
Key campaign message
To date, we have been informed that the messaging will focus on “Just a cough” and encourages people to speak to their GP if they have a cough that Just won’t go away.
Campaign Resources
There will be a TV advert, a radio advert, posters, email banners and other visuals for websites and social media. All of these resources will be made available on the Public Health resource centre website or please do feel free to get in touch with us and we can send you any materials you would like to make use of, as soon as they become available.
Wessex Cancer Alliance plan for campaign
For Wessex, we have decided to also send a local press release (attached), to support this campaign. Our data tells us that we are not seeing the levels of lung cancer referrals that we are used to and so we need to reassure our population. A copy of the press release is attached and will be sent to all Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Dorset media on Tuesday 9, February. You are very welcome to use the press release on your websites as well.
We will also be sharing the national messages via our website and social media channels – Twitter and LinkedIn.
During the previous summer lockdown, there were a number of recordings made about lung cancer – some for patients and others for professionals. Below, are all the resources we have developed locally that you are invited to use, watch and share. We will also be sharing these across Wessex during the lung cancer campaign;
1) Patient video from Dr Andie Siggers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLo_0rMUhu4&feature=emb_logo
2) Patient video from Jenny Graves: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bw1ZcrCp0K8&feature=emb_logo
3) Health Professionals: Wessex LMC podcast on Lung Cancer: https://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-bkpxx-ebed3c?utm_campaign=u_share_ep&utm_medium=dlink&utm_source=u_share
4) Health Professionals: Gateway C webinar – “Lung Cancer vs Covid-19” – https://www.gatewayc.org.uk/free-webinars/ – then click on “2020 Webinars”
Impact on demand (for Acute Trusts)
We fully appreciate the current levels of demand that your hospitals are facing and it is difficult to ascertain what impact this campaign will have on CXR and CT scan demand but we ask you to please keep us informed if you have any concerns, so we can work with you throughout this national campaign.
